There are many things the Courtyard by Marriott is renowned for: comfort, value, and convenience. Now, the Grand Rapids Downtown Courtyard by Marriott will be known for one more thing: its restaurant. Named “Blue Plate,” the design-driven restaurant is a distinct departure for the hotel giant. With self-proclaimed “Comfort Food Favorites,” Blue Plate serves up tantalizing and surprising dishes like Lobster Morel Mac N’ Cheese and Pancetta Wrapped Meatloaf. Guests of the Downtown Courtyard by Marriott will relish its tasty room service menu. As well as items like the ever-classic BLT, Crab and Brie Quesadillas, Chicken Spinach Artichoke Paninis, or a refreshing and almost mandatory treat for all travelers to Michigan—a Traverse City Salad. In addition to serving hotel guests, Blue Plate is a favorite spot for locals wanting to treat their taste buds, particularly local business professionals wanting a quick, satisfying lunch. The centerpiece of Blue Plate’s lunch menu will be their amazing pasta extravaganza. Local residents, especially those of the Plaza Towers, will enjoy Blue Plate To Go, the restaurant’s carry out service that acts as a second kitchen of sorts. Anyone preferring to dine in the comfort of his or her own home can do so easily, quickly, and conveniently. Those wishing to relax and enjoy drinks and a quick bite will love the Blue Plate Lounge and its relaxed atmosphere. Leading the kitchen is Chef Anne Wilterink, formerly of Thousand Oaks Golf Club. A Grand Rapids native, Chef Wilterink began her culinary arts studies at Grand Rapids Community College. Inspired by her grandmother, Chef Wilterink loves preparing fresh, local produce and traditional comfort foods with a twist. Of course, at its core, Blue Plate is a reflection of Downtown Courtyard by Marriott’s evolving personality. The hotel’s General Manager, Mike Donnelly, has been living in Grand Rapids since 1987 and began his career at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. As far as he’s concerned, Blue Plate has joined the long list of noteworthy restaurants that have called hotels their home. Blue Plate will be open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to10 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. as well as Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon. Reservations are not required and attire is casual.
